Remote Marketing Internship in the Healthcare Space: A Conversation with SAKS Health

Remote Marketing Internship in the Healthcare Space Image of a woman on a virtual meeting call.

This year our team was happy to welcome two summer interns into our six week marketing services internship program. Over the weeks our interns were exposed to the healthcare marketing industry and were able to learn from our senior leadership and key client teams all while receiving hands-on experience.

After completing their internships we sat down and asked them about their experience and advice for future interns, here is what they had to say.

What did you expect at the start of your internship experience and how has that expectation changed or stayed the same?

Hassan

“During my internship at SAKS Health, I initially felt nervous about handling new projects and presentations due to my limited experience in the pharmaceutical industry. However, the supportive SAKS Health team made me feel at ease from the start.”

“Their warm welcome and continuous guidance allowed me to tackle challenges confidently. They were always available to answer my questions and provide valuable insights, making my internship experience truly rewarding. Throughout my time at SAKS Health, I had the opportunity to work on exciting projects, thanks to their trust and encouragement.”

“Their belief in my potential boosted my confidence in presenting ideas and taking on new responsibilities. I am immensely grateful for their mentorship, camaraderie, and unwavering support. They have enriched my professional skills and made my internship unforgettable.”

Oliver

I was extremely intimidated at first because I was so worried about trying to impress people or exceed expectations. However, I learned that this team was extremely accepting and understood that I had very little experience regarding the industry that SAKS Health was in.”

What would you tell prospective interns?

Hassan

“To all prospective interns, without a doubt, I wholeheartedly recommend choosing the SAKS Health internship program over any other. The wealth of pharmaceutical industry knowledge and experience you'll gain here is unparalleled. Learning from peers with many years of expertise in the field is an invaluable opportunity.”

“The SAKS Health team's guidance and mentorship will save you from unnecessary hassles, as they generously share their years of experience. Embrace this exceptional chance to learn and grow, and I guarantee that you'll come out with a wealth of practical knowledge and a strong foundation for your future career.”

Oliver

“Try to participate when you can. I think this is an extremely important step for interns to take when entering a field they are interested in, yet unfamiliar with. Ask as many questions as you can and don't be afraid to provide input during discussions. Show that you want to learn and aren’t afraid to make mistakes.”

What was the most challenging aspect of the internship program?

Hassan

“The most challenging aspect of the internship program was the weekly presentations on emerging topics in the healthcare industry, particularly within the pharmaceutical sector. As an intern with limited prior experience in pharma, I had to conduct in-depth research to deliver short yet detailed presentations on emerging topics. Navigating through scientific literature, industry reports, and regulatory guidelines demanded significant time and effort.”

“Adapting to the fast-paced environment and staying updated on the latest trends added pressure to meet tight deadlines. Another significant hurdle was striking a balance between depth and brevity in the presentations. Condensing complex information into concise and understandable formats while ensuring the content remained informative was a constant challenge.”

“Moreover, presenting before professional audiences required building confidence in my communication skills and ability to deliver technical information clearly. Throughout the internship, I honed my research abilities, time management, and communication skills, gaining valuable insights into the pharmaceutical industry. Overcoming these challenges provided a platform for personal and professional growth, allowing me to develop the necessary expertise to tackle complex topics in the future confidently.”

Oliver

“Being someone that loves to engage with others, especially face-to-face, I think working for a virtual company wasn’t very appealing at first. However, I quickly recognized how engaging the team was, both in person and online, and that setting up meetings and interacting with the team wasn’t a challenge at all. I always received a quick response from team members and they always made time to meet with me when I asked.”

Throughout their time with us this summer, Hassan and Oliver not only gained knowledge and learnings for themselves but also helped our team in numerous ways too. From adding creative ideas to sharing topical insights during their weekly presentations they contributed to our entire team.
