Four hands, each holding a puzzle piece, symbolizing how traditional Pharma internal education tactics are getting an upgrade

As the pharmaceutical industry grows more complex, keeping teams up to date with the right knowledge is essential to achieving strategic alignment. Pharmaceutical educational initiatives designed for internal teams play a pivotal role in both launch readiness and sustained product growth. They help form the foundation of an effective internal communications strategy as these programs keep teams informed, aligned, and focused on shared practices, common goals, and collective learning. Developing them internally or with an external partner allows organizations to maintain full control over content and delivery, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities across functions. When thoughtfully designed, such initiatives consolidate expertise, elevate performance, and generate measurable results—ultimately driving sustainable business growth and operational efficiency.

To support pharma leads (i.e., medical affairs, commercial training), agencies, such as SAKS Health, collaborate cross functionally to identify scientific knowledge gaps and develop these programs. They assimilate information on new product launches and clinical data as well as intelligence from recent advisory board meetings, Congress presentations, and competitor activity. This data is then tailored in content depth and tone to fit each group’s role in the organization which can include medical science liaisons (MSLs), sales reps, pharmacovigilance, regulatory, market access, and brand teams.

In addition to providing technical training, SAKS Health works to ensure that messages and brand strategy are positioned to reinforce the core scientific platform and mirror external communication priorities so that all stakeholders speak a unified language. In preparation for launch, teams need to be equipped with product-specific knowledge, key data, and communication skills. This education is aimed often at creating modular, role-specific scenarios through creation of slide deck libraries, MOD/MOA animations,  pre-launch and launch training programs, and concluding with an internal launch event.

At launch the goal is typically to use education to inspire confidence, unify messaging and to energize the various teams and the larger organization. Some approaches include tactics such as internal congress-style events, mobile learning apps, and gamification programs. At post-launch, educational initiatives to maintain momentum, address new data, and ensure consistent communication are most effective. This often consists of monthly publication updates, HCP feedback reports, landscape activity assessments, internal podcast series, knowledge checks, and refresher eLearning modules. As the post-launch period proceeds, there will be more training using advanced learning modules that take a deeper dive into subpopulations, real-world evidence or new indications as well as scientific congress recaps.

In recent years, AI and new technologies have been introducing new training methodologies. Instead of using the same one-size-fits-all programs for everyone, training is now developed to be more personalized, data-driven, and engaging. Some examples are:

Adaptive learning – Uses data to understand how each person learns best and then customizes the training to fit their role and current knowledge level.

Generative AI – Speeds up content creation by quickly summarizing clinical data, making slide decks, and creating realistic practice scenarios.

Immersive tools  Examples include AR/VR and game-like activities that make learning more engaging, while real-time tracking showing how each person is progressing.

Mobile-friendly microlearning  These deliver short lessons right when they’re needed, helping reinforce key information before important interactions.

AI-powered chatbots and simulations – Here teams are given a safe space to practice and improve their skills—making training faster, smarter, and more effective.

An example of a SAKS Health technology that is advancing training methodologies also includes our interactive 3D virtual reality experience SAKSLiNK. This technology customizes the way we digitally communicate, providing invaluable insights that measure the performance across onboarding, training, marketing, and events.

As the pharmaceutical landscape evolves, internal education programs must keep pace by combining proven launch tactics with adaptive learning models, immersive tools, and AI-driven personalization. It is important for training to be treated as a continuous activity and not just a one-time launch exercise. This approach leads to more confident and aligned teams that are prepared to respond to new data and market changes. The result is consistent messaging, stronger performance, and better patient outcomes leading to a Better Healthcare Tomorrow™.
